Resources & Helping Victims of the LA Fires
It is with a heavy heart that we write this news, throughout this week there has been 5 major active fires in the LA area. The recent wildfires have burned over 35,000 acres, with major incidents like the Palisades and Eaton Fires destroying more than 10,000 structures, including homes, schools, and hospitals. At least 10 people have died, and approximately 150,000 residents are under mandatory evacuation orders. Economic losses are estimated between $135 billion and $150 billion. Over 1,500 people are housed in shelters, and nearly 200,000 remain on evacuation watch. Air quality has deteriorated significantly, with smoke causing hazardous conditions. Firefighting efforts have been bolstered by resources from neighboring states, the National Guard, and federal assistance. Local organizations, including the California Fire Foundation and American Red Cross.
Los Angeles is our home. To see the devastating fires rip through our area has left us paralyzed and in shock. We are thankfully out of the impact zone but everyone we know has someone who is a friend or family that is affected which leaves us feeling paralyzed and shaken.
There is many things we could say about the cause pointing to climate change and how denied home insurance earlier this year will greatly effect rebuilding our community, BUT in triage mode it's all about survival right now. We wanted to find a way to make a positive impact and help share information so that people effected have a way of reaching needed resources and also direct anyone who wish to help the survivors.
Here is a document we created of major resources and places to donate. Please remember the fires are still raging on and many could use shelter and monetary support. In addition to places to donate to we have a spot for you to donate to families directly and plan to continue to add to these lists.
